“We all scream for sunscreen”

Number one must have, Sunscreen! There are so many sunscreen options - these are our suggestions of what to look out for…

Choose Mineral Based

We love mineral based sunscreens! They offer natural broad spectrum protection and are formulated with active ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It’s gentle on skin and offers immediate protection from all the suns rays. Look out for the words “full spectrum protection” or “block” on the bottle!

make sure it’s reef safe

Make sure that bottle of SPF says “REEF SAFE” not just “Reef Compliant”. We love our healthy Barrier Reef here in Belize and we want it to stay that way! Keeping in mind to avoid PABA & benzylidene, two other chemicals that damage and kill coral and marine life.

Natural & organic is best

Shout out again to the mineral based sunscreens; can you tell there’s a theme! Did you know that some chemical sunscreens contain hormone disrupters that mimic estrogen in the body? Not cool.

use a separate sunscreen for your face

Cool the skin

Apply a clean towel dampened with cool tap water to the affected area or take a cool bath.

Rehydrate

A sunburn draws fluid to the skin’s surface and away from the rest of the body. Drinking extra water when you are sunburned helps prevent dehydration.
